Paul Thomson coaching  A

t a time when British Coaches were rare, Paul Thompson began his coaching career at Hobbs Moat Road, Solihull, a rink he knew well from his playing days.

From coaching at Under 14 level, Paul progressed through the ranks taking charge of the Solihull Knights (the Barons Reserve team) and then on to the Solihull Barons themselves.

During the years that followed the Solihull Barons became the Solihull Blaze and then the Coventry Blaze. The one thing that remained constant though was Paul’s involvement, now the longest serving Head Coach in the British game.

Not only has Paul a winning percentage of over 68%, in his 700+ game professional career, he has also become the most decorated British Coach collecting league and play off championships at all domestic levels in Britain (ED1, EPL, BNL and Elite League)

In 2007 Paul was named as Head Coach of the GB Men’s Senior team. His first tournament in charge in Slovenia was heralded as a great success seeing Team GB secure their position in the 2nd tier of the Worlds Hockey playing nations as well as improving GB’s World Ranking and thus qualifying for the 2012 Olympic pre-qualification tournaments.
